This Causes More Damage Than Fire.

Firefighters respond to all kinds of emergencies, and some of them are structure fires that cause a lot of damage to peoples’ homes. If there is a loss of life or injury in these cases, no emergency can compare to that. However, when life safety is not an issue, property damage can be a devastating occurrence for a family. Water damage is more common than fire damage too. Whole houses can become unlivable due to water damage, often leaving a family with nowhere to live and huge costs of repair. In fact, when small fires occur in a home the most damage is caused by water the firefighters use to put out the fire, not the fire itself. What do you do if a pipe breaks in your home, or the water supply to your refrigerator’s ice maker is broken with water going everywhere, or the water supply to your washing machine is leaking and you can’t make it stop, perhaps because it is not accessible when it is behind the washer. What can you do to avoid severe damage. You can turn off the water supply to your home. But ask yourself — do I know where the water shutoff is in my home? Some people don’t even know there is one, much less know where it is. When water is flowing and cannot be stopped or fixed, or you just don’t know how to fix it, run and turn the water off to the house. Go find your water shutoff now, you may one day be happy you did.
